Volunteering is a fantastic opportunity for you to make a positive difference and there is lot to be done for our oceans!
Dive Azores offers volunteers the opportunity to get in-depth experience of Azores marine life and ecosystems - as a volunteer you will join our projects and daily eco-tourism activities.

Who is eligible?
- Persons with a biological or natural sciences background who are generally interested in gaining marine biology field experience and improve sea skills.
- Every person interested in marine life conservation that wants to increase their knowledge on marine biology while cooperating with us.
- Students already involved in a graduate program looking for a research project for their degree work. Dive Azores is able to provide supervision and guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students in projects related with our working areas.
- For projects involving scuba diving, volunteers must hold the Divemaster certification plus valid professional insurance.
As a volunteer you will:
-Make a positive contribution to marine wildlife conservation and gain knowledge and experience of the species and habitats in Azores
-Participate actively in our research projects and enjoy regular trips to sea
-Gain experience of field work, research methods and public awareness
-Communicate with our guests as a naturalist under the supervision of our biologists, while both on land and on board
-Conduct office-based work organising and analysing collected data and archived databases
-Assist with the day-to-day operation of our base, including staffing the front desk, taking boat bookings and answering enquiries
-Help with the boat duties prior to departure, during the trips, and after returning to the marina.
-Enjoy unique wildlife encounters and have the opportunity to take great pictures
Application Requirements:
- Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
- Volunteers are most needed from May to September, during our field season.
- Volunteers must be fluent in speaking and writing English
- For non-EU citizens a tourist visa and passport is required
-Volunteers must have health insurance. Dive Azores will not be responsible for medical payments on your behalf.
-Volunteers must be willing to stay at least one month. Training, orientation and research participation is not possible in less time.
-Volunteers must behave like professionals at all times and being on time and ready to work is essential. Alcohol and controlled substances are not allowed during the working period. Dive Azores can terminate your program at any time if improper behaviour is observed.
- Volunteers must share our interest in wildlife and conservation, along with enthusiasm and willingness to work and learn in a conscientious and responsible manner.
How much does the volunteer program costs?
The volunteer program has no costs. However, volunteers are responsible for all their travel, accommodation and living expenses. We are happy to help you finding the best options, if necessary.
